I'm Baaaack!

Oh my goodness- I can't believe it's been so loooong! It's hard to believe that March 11 was my last post- not only because, hello??? It's MAY already! But also because- has it really been that long?? Man. Time flies when you're living in chaos! :)

But seriously, between working some big events at work (here and here and here) and my laptop completely crashing in the worst way, I have had such a hard time getting back on here to post!

Let's start with the laptop crash of 2011 (as I will now infamously refer to it). We've been struggling with my poor, old laptop for some time now. I bought it in 2006 when I moved to Texas, so it's a good 5 years old (which is ancient in laptop years). It held on well for me through most of it's lifespan, but it really took a dive there toward the end. It caught a virus that we just couldn't shake, and it was all downhill from there. I was in the middle of some pretty heavy research one night mid-March when it finally decided it had had enough. It locked up and shut down and refused to cooperate. When I took it in to Best Buy's Geek Squad to diagnose the problem, even the "Geek" had to laugh at how bad it really was. (Oh, you want to put in a CD to check the hard drive content? Good luck- this little laptop will spit it right back atcha!) His recommendation: get a new laptop. Awesome.

So a couple of weeks and a nice hefty Best Buy bill later, here I am on my new HP Pavilion Laptop. I love it so far and I can only hope it treats me as well (or better) than my now peaced-out Gateway. Although there is still hope for that old guy- he's back with the Geek Squad now, trying to get made back into a shadow of his former self. If he comes out alive and kicking, the rest of the family will have a computer all to themselves! (and no sharing for me!)

So now that we're back and ready to roll, I've got quite a bit to fill you in on... I've done several projects in the last month that I can't wait to share, and made more decisions about the future of this blog. Being away from the blog for so long showed me how much I really do enjoy writing on here. I may struggle with what to share from time to time, but the important part is that this little space on the blogosphere really gives me the chance to put it all out there! So here's to a refreshed start and some brand-spankin-new content coming your way! Let's go!

Tune in to TruTV!

Wow- can you tell I've been busy?? It's been 2 months since I've posted anything here! I've been working on several projects, and hopefully I'll be able to announce them all soon.

However, the biggest project of them all is finally ready to promote: I'm going to be on TV!!

We have been filming a reality show at work for the past year, and it's finally time for it to premiere! It's about all the craziness that happens at Strokers Dallas, Strokers Ice House & Strokers Ink. Rick Fairless, the owner, often has to balance work and family since he runs the 3 businesses with the help of his wife, mother, and daughter.

The show is called Ma's Roadhouse and it premieres next Wednesday, Sept 15th with back-to-back episodes on TruTV at 8pm CST.

Here is the promo currently running on TruTV, TBS, and TNT:

Please tune in next Wednesday. Obviously you can tell by the promo that this is not a kid-friendly show, but don't let that stop you from recording it and watching it after the kids are asleep! Let me know what you think about it after you see the first couple episodes!

And hopefully now that we're done with the first season, I'll have more time to post!

Long Lost Radio

I made a special appearance at the "Texas Hardtails Scooter Show" C.H.U.M.P studio a few weeks ago and the episode is finally online at www.strokersdallas.com.

BEWARE: it's long. We're talking more than an hour. Feel free to fast forward.

A Big Loss

If there is one bad thing about working in the motorcycle industry, it is that your chances of knowing someone involved in a fatal accident rises considerably.

Yesterday afternoon we lost another member of the industry: Bruce Rossmeyer. He was the owner of several Harley Davidson dealerships and the founder of Destination Daytona- the largest Harley dealership in the world. Destination Daytona also includes an ampitheater, related retail shops, and has become a rally destination. Bruce was killed in an accident while on his way to Sturgis, South Dakota for Sturgis Bike Week. While I did not know Bruce personally, I have seen him at many events and was well aware of the influence he had on the industry as a whole.

It's always a sad day when you lose an icon, but at least Bruce left behind a legacy of motorcycling that will not soon be forgotten. My thoughts are with his family.

More Jesse James

So maybe I'm on a Jesse James kick. Can you blame me? Look at the guy! Better yet, talk to the guy and then you'll REALLY understand.

Rick and Joe T did just that the other day. They interviewed Jesse on their radio show (which if you haven't noticed, I am no longer a part of) and he talked about his appearance on Celebrity Apprentice, his upcoming show Jesse James is a Dead Man, and his life in general. He's a pretty cool guy and it was a great interview. Check it out in the video here. If you want to bypass the Rick and Joe T B.S. (although it can be quite amusing) you can fast-forward to the 40-minute mark and catch the entire deal. It's a good one.

April 10 = awesome

I can't WAIT for April 10 when Dallas bars and restaurants go smoke free!! But if you're one who likes to pollute the air for others, perhaps you should celebrate "the end of an era" and attend the Strokers Smoke Em day:
(I do not support this event, but I LOVE the fliers!)

Lookin Good MOM!

Rock the Vote

While it's important to vote in the national election, it's equally important to vote in Ride Texas Magazine's "Best In Texas" issue.

Here is the link for the 2009 ballot: http://www.ridetexas.com/BestInTexas/2009/BITLandingPage.asp

Use your power.
And if you need any help knowing who to vote for, I can help you out.
(Hint, it starts with "S" and ends with "trokers Dallas")

Apartment for Rent

It's really nice. 1 bedroom. 1 bath. Third floor with a great view of the parking lot. Comes with hyper dog (requires 3 walks a day, minimum), a fridge full of condiments, lots of DVDs, and a full washer and dryer.

I'm putting it up for rent because I now live at work and would rather not deal with the commute.

Here is a short list of reasons I now sleep on my office floor:
-Big Dogs of Dallas SPCA adoption and fundraising event (Aug 30)
-Free Pizza Thursdays (Every Thursday starting Sept 4)
-Weekly Lingerie Contests (Every Tuesday, pending sponsorship)
-Hot Summer Nights Classic Car Show (Sept 13)
-Hot Rod Cruise Night (Every Saturday night starting Sept 20)
-Upcoming Strokers 13th Anniversary Party (Oct 10-12)
-Live Fest: Battle for Dallas (Battle of the Bands at Strokers Ink, Nov 8)

Just a few things to do before now and then... I'll be here if you need me.

Talkin' Texan Catch Up

Here are the "Talkin Texan with Meghan" segments from the past few weeks.

Talkin Texan with Meghan: July 27th

Talkin Texan with Meghan: August 3rd

Be sure to log on to http://www.live1053.com/ to listen to the full episodes. August 3rd we interviewed Paul Sr. and Paul Jr. from Orange County Choppers. Man are those guys busy!

Plus, if you've got suggestions for other words I should be using, send them my way! I'm always in need of some more ideas! :)

Back at it again

Hey Y'all.

So I've been gone in Sturgis for the past 2 weeks. That meant no internet, (heck- no computer!), no phone, and basically no means of communication with anyone outside of the Rally except by snail mail! So obviously, that means no updates to the blog.

But we're back at it again. Overall our trip was a success, with just a few minor mishaps (big fines at the weigh station, flat tire on the trailer, exhaust burn on my leg, pulled over for illegal ape hangers, stuck on the bike in a lightning storm, surrounded by buffalo in the state park, engine light on the truck, etc). Traffic was a little down this year but we didn't notice too much. We met a lot of very interesting people and had a great time. I'll be posting some pictures in the next few days as I get unpacked and re-organized!

Talkin' Texan, a lot.

They ganged up on me! Rick thought he'd be tricky and make me have multiple phrases ready for this week... without telling me about it! Listen and see how it goes...

Talkin' Texan: July 20

...and that wasn't all! They pulled it on me again later in the show. Guess I'm going to have to be even more prepared for next week! It's on, Mr. Fairless.

Visit http://www.live1053.com/ to listen to the full show on podcast. It's a good one.
