FUNK

You read that right: I said FUNK. That's what I'm in today.

I thought I would have a chance to catch up on the blog in the past few weeks, but boy was I WRONG! May has been crazy!

My family (mom, dad, and two brothers) all came to visit me for 5 days last weekend. While it was great to see everyone, it put me in a tailspin the two weeks prior to their visit as I tried to clean and finish up a million unfinished projects around the house before they got here(which of course means that I have tons of upcoming material for the blog!). But all that frenzied activity has made me tiiiirreed! I woke up cranky this morning and I can't seem to shake it.

So I turned to this little dude, who instantly changes his mood with a little "Dog Days are Over":



I love that he gets all cranky and starts whining until he hears the song start again. Everytime I hear this song, I want to break in to a dance similar to his!

So here is the full version of the song for anyone else that is having a FUNKY Friday! Let's turn it back in to a Feel Good Friday!

Let's Move!

I am a huge fan of the First Lady's new campaign called "Let's Move," which encourages kids to exercise as part of a healthier lifestyle.

The campaign recently had a big boost in popularity when Beyonce wrote and choreographed a song for kids to learn and use as an exercise. Kids in elementary schools across the nation learned the dance and performed it as big groups at school functions. The song is pretty catchy, and the dance is easy enough that anyone can do it! See below:




I think this is a great idea and a fun way to encourage kids to be more active. I always love when celebrities step up and use their popularity for good, too. Way to go, Beyonce!

Jimmy Fallon never ceases to amaze me with his impersonation abilities... watch this video he did as Charlie Sheen and tell me he doesn't sound JUST LIKE HIM! He's so great...



He cracks me up. I would love to spend a day with him! (Heck- even an hour or a minute would be great!!)

Fort Wayne, my hometown

Fort Wayne, Indiana rarely makes national news. It's a small town that tends to keep to itself.

However, a recent debate about what to name the new government building is creating quite a stir! Many people want to name the building after a past Mayor, which seems like an honorable memorial. But is that really their motivation? Or could it be because the Mayor's name is Harry Baals??

Writing about Rory and her new "trick" had me thinking... maybe I need to use her obvious creativity and intelligence and actually make her useful. I mean look at what this Berner can do:

Rory can sit, wait, lay down, shake, high five, and back up. Not that impressive compared to ol' Koda here. Or maybe I can teach her to be more like Mishka:

The Power of YouTube

YouTube amazes me. The way it can create a star out of anyone is powerful stuff!

A homeless guy on the side of the road with a hand written sign. We've all seen guys like him before, but have any of us taken the initiative to talk to them or post a video about them? Probably not because there probably aren't many out there with a talent like this:

Step it UP

(guilty pleasure admittance in 3... 2... 1:) I am a sucker for a good dance movie and have been hooked on the Step Up series since the beautiful Channing Tatum made his dancing debut several years ago. Granted, these movies are not meant to have award winning acting, but DANG can those people dance!

In my opinion, each Step Up has gotten better than the one before, and Step Up 3 is no exception. I definitely saw it twice in the theater and the DVD was at the top of my Christmas wish list. No joke.

Not only is the dancing amazing in this edition, the soundtrack is also rockin. I can't even watch this trailer without dancing in my seat! This specific trailer is great because it highlights the dancing and the musicians from the film. Enjoy! (and do a little chair dance while you watch!)

Flash Mob

I think it's great that the idea of flash mobs have caught on. I remember seeing my first one online (although I've yet to see one happen in person) and I loved it!

Have you seen the series of flash mobs happening in Seattle? They use Glee remix songs, and everyone participating looks so happy! While these look a lot more planned and the whole crowd seems to be participating, I love the variety of participants! (Check out the little girl in this first video):





(I also love Glee. Such a guilty pleasure!)

Talented Collaboration

When a late night show skit is pulled off successfully, it always amazes me. I mean, how much time do these people really have to pull it all together and make it run so smoothly? And then to do it in one take? Genius.

This video is awesome for several reasons:
#1) It's from Jimmy Fallon's show
#2) It features Justin Timberlake as the guest (and I adore him)
#3) The musical selection they picked is perfect!
